I’ve just read here about the release of what seems to be a very interesting book for those who are interested in the evolution of the human society. The author claims that the civil right movement has grown to a large extent as a result of the novel.
Describing the other people wherever they were as having similar feeling, thoughts and desires to those of the reader created empathy has led to compassion and to the creation of what was later known as the civil right movement.
I’m a strong believer in the power of the heart in changing the world. If we remember that at the 18th century the novel filled the function of the TV of today in bringing the story of other people to our door step so we can relate to them, then this claim is right but a little trivial.
When you are aware of something then very naturally you start feeling connection to the situation and putting yourself in the shoes of the other people, the more imagination you have the more naturally it comes to you.
I feel that this is the era of compassion and relating and these are the means that would help us turn the world into a much better place for all of us.
