I was shocked to see Carter place a wreath on Arafat s grave.
Political views are debatable, its true.
There are different views possible on a lot of things and all of them can be correct at the same time - but pure evil is and always will be undebatable.
there is no possibility to think that Arafat was anything but that.
Even leftist Israeli’s would agree to that.
So what was the point?
Cao says
Surely, Carter is aware that, as a matter of religious conviction, Meshaal cannot accept Israel’s existence. Hamas believes every inch of Israel and, indeed, of any land ever ruled by Muslims is “an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Moslem generations until Judgment Day,” the charter states. A Muslim can fight to reclaim this endowment or he can fail to fulfill the obligations his faith imposes. To Hamas, there is no third option.
The Hamas charter asserts, “There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad.
I think maybe Carter was trying to arouse empathy with the Palestinian people and through them with Meshaal…
It was obviously a very wrong move.
