the next revolution

This is a softer post than the usual.

We lead a pretty cushioned life here in the states, for the most part we have every thing we need, most of us have food in our plates and roofs over our heads, at least 3 t.v 2 cars 20 pairs of shoes, 5 pcs a couple of laptops….

you name it, we’ve got it. (and usually in doubles)

We are in fact, unknowingly enslaved.

we are enslaved to “things” and therefor enslaved to the mega corporations that think up and make and serve us these “necessities.

Steven from deconsumption is optimistic that the revolution is here and not just around the corner.

he says:One is that I’ve been getting a rather large number of search engine referrals from people looking for something along the lines of a “crisis timeline”. That’s not all that surprising, since our world is in crisis and I did indeed write a crisis timeline. But I mention it in passing because…hell, I don’t know, because evidently a lot of people are looking for someone who has a top-down view of what’s going on. And of course it also tells us that a lot more people are waking-up to our cultural predicament than were, say, a few years ago.

But more interesting is that I’m also getting a respectable and regular number of hits from search engines given the precise term “New American Revolution”.

I’d written a piece a back in 2005 entitled “Join the New American Revolution! (…and Get Out of Debt)”, and evidently it comes up high on those search returns — and I’m delighted it does, since any discussion of revolution in this country must only begin by seeing how stupidly enslaved we’ve allowed ourselves to be by our implicit acceptance and support of large corporations.

Early American history is a virtual tapestry of independence-minded people fighting tooth-and-nail against the imposing dominance that corporations were assuming over all our lives….but of course, most of those examples were quickly subsumed in a history written by the winners.

Pretty interesting I thought. and very to the point.
